History

since 1650

Year 1600 - 1700

Villa Moscheni stands in a flat area, south of its original enclosure and currently southwest of its gardens and vegetable patches. The building shows some of the most common Italian sixteenth century features, like the loggia and the outside staircase with two flights adorned with stone balustrades and small pillars. The oldest part of the Villa sticks out from the rear façade on the upstream part of the property, featuring a pitched roof and a three-arched loggia in the Tuscan order. A lemon-house and a woodshed, stand on the north side of the Villa close to the enclosure, both overlooking a garden filled with colourful potted lemon trees placed on boulders. At the beginning of the XVIIIth century, the original building underwent a process of enlargement that led to the present villa, while the enclosure was widened eastward to make room to a fishpond and a well. During this period, Villa Moscheni started to enjoy great prestige thanks to its owners: the Palmas, a noble family from Lucca. Vestiges of their commissions can be found in the indoor frescoes, as well as in several external decorative elements: the stony family coat of arms over the main door, the stone seats and the monumental entrances with their gates and rural mosaics. The construction of the Villa was completed in 1722, as engraved on a stone that stands outside the enclosure on the south side of the property. During the years, the ownership of the Villa passed from the Palmas to other noble families: the Di Poggios, the Bossis and the Moschenis, from whom it took its actual name. From the beginning of the XIX century up to the present day, the villa intern layout and floor plan underwent several rearrangements. Nevertheless, it still preserves the characteristic features of an eighteenth century villa of its kind. At present Villa Moscheni is owned by the Buldrini family, which started an accurate and careful restoration aimed at bringing back the villa to its original features and structure.

Year 2011

The Buldrini family purchased the villa and immediately set about renovating the entire property including the gardens and the vegetable patches, which were designed drawing on the few historical data available as well as on the prominent features of the eighteenth-century villas outside the Walls of Lucca.

Year 2018

Villa Moscheni was built in 1650. It is located in Tuscany in a unique place, at the feet of the "Noble Hills", at just 9 Kms northeast of the walled city of Lucca.
